L.N. Woman in Fallbrook Accident Dies

Elizabeth Sager dies weeks after she was in an accident with her husband, who died shortly after the crash.

Eizabeth "Jane" Sager, 73, of Laguna Niguel, has died from injuries she suffered in March in a crash that occurred while she was.

She was diagnosed with a subdural hematoma and facial fractures. Her condition declined, and she was pronounced dead May 2. Her husband died shortly after the accident.

She was the front-seat passenger of a GMC Envoy on March 20; her husband Richard, 72, was driving, the San Diego medical examiner’s office said.

The couple were headed south on Mission Road in Fallbrook near Green Canyon Road when the SUV drove off the road, went up and down an embankment and hit trees, the California Highway Patrol said.

Elizabeth Sager was taken to Palomar Medical Center  in Escondido, according to the Highway Patrol.

At the time, a witness reported seeing the vehicle drift to the right, go over the curb, down one embankment and then up another, and hit a tree head-on.

The witness found a nearby Highway Patrol officer, who drove to the scene. Richard Sager, who was wearing a seat belt, stopped breathing shortly after the officer arrived and was pronounced dead at 8:51 a.m. Elizabeth Sager was alert and in the passenger seat.

Richard Sager's cause of death was listed as a heart attack.
