'Race to Nowhere' Screening, Perfect for Kids and Parents on Oct. 20

Laguna Niguel Elementary will be screening the documentary, a look at the American education system and the students being taught within.

Parents, time to prepare for a movie night.

The PTA’s Parent Education Committee will be screening the documentary movie Race to Nowhere in the multi-purpose room on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m.

“Our PTA offers educational programs for parents,” said Laguna Niguel Elementary Principal Ellen Fine. “That is of interest to them a few times a year.”

“It is a groundbreaking documentary,” said in a press release about the film.  “That examines the colossal price being paid, by today’s students, for the achievement-obsessed way of life that permeates America.”

The documentary premiered in October 2009 and continues to be shown throughout the country.

“We’re excited about being able to offer this parent/teaching opportunity for our Laguna Niguel Elementary parents and parents from neighboring schools,” said Fine.  “We sent an e-mail out to neighboring schools in Laguna Niguel and Aliso Viejo.”

Although the screening will be at an elementary school, Laguna Niguel Elementary has invited all parents and members of the public to watch the documentary.

“We sent invitations to all elementary, middle, and high schools,” Fine said.

The screening will be held at 7 p.m. in the multipurpose room of Laguna Niguel Elementary, 27922 Niguel Heights Blvd.

Tickets are $10 in advance for general admission.  People can still buy tickets online until 4 p.m. on Oct. 20.  No tickets will be sold at the door.
