SDG&E's $20M Underground Project Begins on Golden Lantern at Bear Brand

The project is expected to be completed some time in the next four months, according to SDG&E officials.

The work in this area is part of SDG&E’s $20 million undergrounding/reliability project. The project will underground the overhead transmission lines that currently run from the sub-station at Bear Brand Park, up the canyon and then over to Golden Lantern, according to Duane Cave, governmental affairs Director with SDG&E.

"We are undergrounding these line because the overhead lines that currently run through the canyons above Bear Brand Park have had stability problems due to erosion caused by rain over the years. By placing these lines underground we will solve this issue and improve the reliability of our system," Cave said. "We hope our local residents are patient while we trench along Golden Lantern and Camino Del Avion, we hope to have all trenching work completed within about four months."
