DANA POINT, CA — A sewage spill reported Tuesday kept a stretch of a popular Dana Point beach closed Wednesday, Dec. 4.

The spill was originally reported by the Orange County Health Care Agency's Environmental Health Division, which sent out an alert following a report that 3,375 gallons of sewage had spilled from a break in a main lift station sewer line near Salt Creek Beach on Tuesday, Dec. 3.

The break was repaired as of Tuesday, officials said. The beach closure spans from 1,500 feet upcoast and 1,500 downcast of Salt Creek Beach.

"Out of an abundance of caution, the affected ocean water area will remain closed to swimming, surfing, and diving until the results of follow-up water quality monitoring meet acceptable standards," HCA’s statement said.

It was not immediately clear when the beach would be reopened.
