South OC Man Involved In Sports Betting Scandal Agrees To Plead Guilty

The OC man agreed to plead guilty to charges stemming from the scandal that involved the interpreter for Dodgers player Shohei Ohtani.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — A south Orange County man agreed to plead guilty to federal tax-related charges stemming from his role in an illegal sports betting operation involving the interpreter for Dodgers player Shohei Ohtani, NBC Los Angeles reported.

San Juan Capistrano resident Mathew Bowyer, 49, agreed to plead guilty to operating an unlawful gambling business, money laundering, and subscribing to a false tax return, the report said.

Bowyer's San Juan Capistrano home was raided in the illegal sports betting investigation that led authorities to arrest Ippei Mizuhara, Ohtani's former interpreter.
