Cops Shoot Laguna Woods Man Who Threatened Contractor: OCSD
A retiree died as a result of an OCSD shooting in Laguna Woods Tuesday. Reports say he was holding a gun when officers arrived on scene.

LAGUNA WOODS, CA — A retiree upset about his contractor going over budget succumbed to bullet wounds sustained after being shot by Orange County Sheriff's Department deputies Tuesday. The OCSD reported that 65-year-old Paul Mono of Laguna Woods, died from injuries sustained during the shooting.
A recently new homeowner in that area, according to his real estate agent, Mono allegedly threatened to shoot his contractor over floor plans when the OCSD arrived after a 911 call was placed. Officers arrived on the scene to find Mono with a gun, according to witnesses. OCSD officers, after ordering him to put a weapon down, then fired upon Mono.
Multiple deputies fired at the suspect, according to Lt. Fred Thompson, OCSD Laguna Woods Chief of Police services.

Mono was rushed in extremely critical condition to Mission Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries late Tuesday, according to Carrie Braun, Public Information Officer for the Orange County Sheriff's Department.
"Multiple deputies were called to the 600 block of Avenida Sevilla at 1:10 p.m. Tuesday," Braun told Patch. "No deputies were injured."

Mono's real estate agent, Jennifer Heflin, told the Orange County Register that she sold the property to Mono and his wife about five months ago. Heflin told CBS2 that Mono showed her his gun and ammunition Monday and said he wanted to shoot his contractor, who allegedly went over budget.
When she went to visit him Tuesday, with the contractor, Dennis Metzler, joining in by phone though he was nearby. After Metzler could hear Mono getting upset, he told Heflin to get out and called 911, The Register reported.
Metzler witnessed sheriff's deputies enter the house while he and Heflin waited near a carport.
"They went to his door, yelling, 'Put the gun down. Get down,' and then we heard the shots," Metzler told The Register.
