Suspicious Package Locks Down Laguna Niguel Federal Building

On Wednesday, a suspicious package drew attention, causing the Orange County Sheriffs Department Bomb Squad to report to the scene.

LAGUNA NIGUEL, CA — A bomb scare at the Ziggurat Building in Laguna Niguel was quickly downgraded by Orange County Sheriff's Department Bomb Squad.

A package sent to the Chet Holifield Federal Building in Laguna Niguel Wednesday was initially deemed suspicious but turned out to be harmless, a sheriff's lieutenant said.

The sheriff's bomb squad was called to the so-called Ziggurat Building at 24000 Avila Road about 9:45 a.m. after the package was sent through an X-ray machine and officials determined a closer examination was needed, according to Sheriff's Lt. Wayne Rehnelt.

Investigators determined there was no danger, Rehnelt said, but authorities did not disclose the contents. The package was deemed safe and determined not to be a danger as of 11:30 a.m.
