Tall Ships Sail Through Dana Point over the Weekend
The Tall Ships Festival in Dana Point this weekend drew a steady crowd of visitors interested in the age of high seas adventure.
DANA POINT, CA — The Toshiba Tall Ships Festival once again sailed through Dana Point with some fantastic voyagers rounded up to show off their sails.
The event, which started in 1984 and is the Ocean Institute’s premier annual fundraiser, brought thousands to Dana Point’s harbor.
In 2016, the festival celebrated the return of the brig Pilgrim from her annual summer sail as an ambassador of good will for the City of Dana Point and the Ocean Institute.

Equally important, the festival highlighted the community’s rich cultural heritage as chronicled in Richard Henry Dana’s classic American novel, “Two Years Before the Mast” when the Pilgrim explored and traded along this coastline in the early days while California was still owned by Mexico according to the Ocean Institute.
