Tall Ships to Set Sail in Dana Point this Weekend

The Tall Ships Adventure Sail is set to take off this weekend from Dana Point. Will you be on board?

DANA POINT, CA—Avast, you land lubbers. The Spirit of Dana Point, along with the Dana Point Chamber of Commerce and the Ocean Institute invite you to set sail on a grand adventure this Saturday, Aug. 27.

"Join the crew to help raise sail, handle lines and steer the ship," they stated in a recent release regarding the Spirit of Dana Point. The schooner is an ideal experience to capture the magnificence of the tall ship era.

The time for boat launch is 2 p.m. but advance plans are recommended. Come and experience this tall ship in advance of September's Tall Ships Festival on Sept. 10 and 11, 2016.

"Steer the ship or simply sit back, relax and enjoy the majesty of sailing the seas aboard a tall ship," the Ocean Institute's website states.

The Spirit of Dana Point cost of admission is $60 for adults, $50 for seniors and active military, adn $40 for children under the age of 12, and over the age of 4-years-old.

Tickets will include admission to the Ocean Institute Education Center on the day of your sail. If tall ships are not your thing, consider the Ocean Institute's Whale Watching Cruise, also this Saturday.

This is a year round cruise on board the R/V Sea Explorer, where whale watchers can view the large mammals who make Dana Point their home. Expect to see such creatures as the Fin whales, Minke whales, Bottlenose and Common dolphins and other marine wildlife during their annual migrations.

"Other cetaceans include Risso and Pacific white-sided dolphins and the occasional sighting of Orcas and Humpback whales," the Ocean Institute's website states.

Prices for whale watching start at $45 for adults to $25 for children between the ages of 4- and 17-years-old.
