2 San Diego High Schools Placed on Lockdown While Threats Investigated

Clairemont and Lincoln high schools were placed on lockdown Monday, San Diego Unified officials said.

SAN DIEGO, CA: Anonymous threats of violence at two high schools in the San Diego Unified School District caused administrators to place the campuses on lockdown Monday, according to district officials.

Both lockdowns have since been lifted.

A male caller telephoned each of the campuses about 11:30 a.m. and made menacing statements, according to SDUSD officials. It was unclear if the same person was responsible for both threats.

Lockdowns were in place at Clairemont and Lincoln high schools at around noon, officials said via Twitter, while law enforcement swept the campuses "as a precaution."

All students at the campuses remained safe, authorities said.

Teachers kept students secured in their classrooms while campus and city police searched the grounds and buildings, SDUSD spokeswoman Linda Zintz said. Nothing hazardous had been found as of early afternoon.

Zintz said she was unaware of the exact nature of the threats.

At 12:40 p.m., the lockdown had been lifted at Clairemont High. according to the district's Twitter page. Students and staff were at lunch and would return to their normally scheduled classes, with their regular dismissal time in effect.

At 1 p.m., the district announced that the lockdown at Lincoln High had also been lifted.

"Nothing suspicious found on campus. Everyone safe," district officials said.

Students would be going to lunch and then class, followed by release at their regular dismissal time.

Simultaneously Monday, a bomb threat investigation was reported at Bonsall West Elementary School in Oceanside. The threat came by way of a computer-generated message, according to Oceanside police. The campus was evacuated and students were sent home for the day while authorities searched the school.
