Annual Pumpkin Drop Spews Candy on Students
UC San Diego students enjoyed Halloween treats on Monday afternoon. The treats were stuffed into a 400 pound pumpkin and dropped off an 11 story building.
Happy Halloween!
A 400-pound pumpkin filled with 75 pounds of candy was dropped off an 11 story building on campus on Monday afternoon. The pumpkin was stuffed with an assortment of individually wrapped candy for students and staff.
The pumpkin’s “splat” is measured each year. The largest splat in the 37 year history of the pumpkin drop occurred in 1995, when a 398-pound pumpkin spewed over 100 feet. This year's splat was measured at 85 feet, but a window was broken, so that has to count for a few more feet.
