Arrest Made in Pacific Beach Hit-And-Run: Police

Nearly two months after the encounter that left three people injured, a 24-year-old man is facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon.

SAN DIEGO, CA — An arrest was made this week following a months-long investigation into a Pacific Beach hit-and-run that left three people injured.

Omar Gutierrez, 24, was arrested Tuesday in connection with the Aug. 5 incident, San Diego police Lt. Scott Wahl said in a news release. Investigators allege that Gutierrez was the driver of a vehicle that fled the scene after the collision, Wahl said.

The three men struck by the car were hospitalized for treatment of lacerations, fractures and brain injuries.

"During the course of the investigation, detectives learned the incident was not an accident and the act of running over the victims was intentional," Wahl said.

Police believe moments before the 1:05 a.m. collision, the victims were involved in an altercation with a man and woman.

On Aug. 24, a surveillance image of the man and woman was released, along with a photo of a silver, four-door Hyundai Elantra sedan similar to the one that reportedly hit the victims.

At 5:20 p.m. Tuesday, Gutierrez was arrested at his workplace, then booked into jail on suspicion of three counts of assault with a deadly weapon and one count of destruction of evidence. He is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail, with arraignment set for Friday.

"This is still an ongoing investigation," Wahl said. "Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477."
