Bestselling Author and UCSD Alum Khaled Hosseini Speaks in La Jolla

Author Khaled Hosseini released his latest book "And the Mountains Echoed" on May 21.

Khaled Hosseini, author of The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns, spoke about his new book in La Jolla Wednesday night. Hosseini, a UC San Diego alum, released And the Mountains Echoed last month.

Warwick's hosted the sold-out event at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego and a line formed outside the venue well before the reading.

Hosseini signed copies and discussed his the novel with Martha Barnette, co-host of A Way with Words.

Hosseini's site explained that, "And the Mountains Echoed is a deeply moving story about how we love, how we take care of one another and how the choices we make resonate through generations. With profound wisdom, depth, insight and compassion—and moving from Kabul, to Paris, to San Francisco, to the Greek island of Tinos—Hosseini writes about the bonds that define us and shape our lives, the ways that we help our loved ones in need and how we are often surprised by the people closest to us."

The Seattle Times called the book "is a powerful, haunting story of a central tragedy: a young boy’s loss of his sister."

And USA Today said, "The story, about the disruption of family ties and its implications for the affected parties over more than six decades, could happen nowhere else. Yet its psychology and emotions are universal, entirely untethered to the setting — Hosseini's territory is first and foremost the geography of the heart."

In La Jolla, you can find And the Mountains Echoed at Warwicks.
