Bill Kwan Concert December 12 at Sound Room in Oakland

A bit of jazz, a bit of singer/songwriter fare come together for fascinating evening of music

When Bill Kwan performs at the Sound Room in Oakland on December 12th, he’ll bring a fresh take on jazz that will leave audiences utterly delighted and wondering why no one has ever done it before. After several years as one of the Bay Area’s most consistent jazz vocalists, Kwan found himself drawn to the ethos of singer/songwriter fare. So when it came time to record Poison & Wine, his delicate new release, Kwan interpreted lyrics penned by the most compelling songwriters of our generation by using the very same concept that jazz singers use when interpreting the classics. The result is lovely. Equally contemplative and melancholy, graceful and painful, Poison & Wine shares Bill‘s heartache and sadness with us while challenging the original song structures and wrenching new emotions from the tunes. During his show at the Sound Room, expect selections from Poison & Wine as well as a slate of more traditional jazz fare. Not to be missed
