Young artists will dip their brushes into the exciting world of multimedia art!&nbsp;With acrylic paint, watercolors, oil pastels, and more, students will explore a variety of surfaces and materials to bring their imaginations to life.&nbsp;Inspired by popular artists and treasured storybooks, each day is a new adventure celebrating self-expression, encouraging confidence, and spreading the joy of making art.&nbsp;To the canvas and beyond!&nbsp;
Erica Hurley&nbsp;is a&nbsp;third grade&nbsp;teacher at Gillispie School. She recently returned to college and fulfilled her goal of earning a CA single-subject teaching credential in art. She is thrilled to begin a new chapter as an art teacher. She especially enjoys mixed media and three-dimensional art. When&nbsp;she’s&nbsp;not in the classroom, Ms. Hurley can be found spending time with her two children, gardening, baking, and of course, making art!&nbsp;

Jihye Lee, a highly regarded Korean-born jazz composer and bandleader based in Brooklyn, released her latest large ensemble album, Infinite Connections, in 2024. This album, which features traditional Korean rhythms as its foundation, has been praised as a powerful testament to her artistry. Lee has graced prestigious stages such as Jazz at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall’s NYO Jazz. Her innovative approach to composition has garnered her numerous accolades, including the BMI Foundation’s Charlie Parker Jazz Composition Prize and the Korean Music Award.

We will work on a new project each day exploring oil&nbsp;pastels, watercolor, acrylics, collage,&nbsp;and mask-making. Learners will be directed based on technical&nbsp;and social-emotional&nbsp;skills—while&nbsp;also&nbsp;being&nbsp;given freedom to personalize each finished piece.&nbsp;
Sarah&nbsp;Ekedal,&nbsp;Art Coordinator&nbsp;at&nbsp;Grant UTK–8 Elementary in Mission Hills,&nbsp;specializes in creating art projects that connect young artists&nbsp;with&nbsp;the&nbsp;broader&nbsp;community.&nbsp;While teaching art at Grant, Sarah coordinates&nbsp;numerous&nbsp;young art displays in the&nbsp;community,&nbsp;including the coordination of the production of 70 hand-painted banners for the&nbsp;annual&nbsp;Colors on Canvas Banners contest. She partnered with&nbsp;the New&nbsp;Children’s Museum to implement their Social Emotional Learning Through&nbsp;Art curriculum.&nbsp;Previously, Sarah was the&nbsp;art coordinator&nbsp;at Lindbergh-Schweitzer Elementary&nbsp;(now&nbsp;Clairemont Canyons Academy)&nbsp;and taught at Clay for Kids.&nbsp;

Patchwork is heading back to La Mesa Wine Works for some crafting fun! Macramé makes great decorations and are fun to make! Come join us and learn the art of creating your own Macramé Air Plant Wall Hanging! You will have the option to create one large or various small hangers. This is the perfect addition to any room or patio! This workshop includes step-by-step instructions along with all of the supplies. Finish off your masterpiece with 4 air plants!
No previous experience required, beginners to experts welcome!
Tickets include a flight of wine + $10 OFF a bottle of your choice! Live music starts at 2pm so stick around for some afternoon jams! Delicious food truck on site so come hungry!

During our&nbsp;five-day art camp, we will have fun making art while learning about art from many places around the world. You will make your own Mexican piñata, paint an African cheetah, fold Japanese origami, draw an Icelandic puffin, paint the pyramids of Egypt, create a San Diego collage, and paint your own Australian tropical fish.
We will use watercolor and acrylic paints, origami&nbsp;and&nbsp;decorative&nbsp;papers, tissue paper, crayons, markers,&nbsp;and&nbsp;pencils.&nbsp;
June Rubin&nbsp;has been teaching art for over 30 years.&nbsp;She is a graduate of both&nbsp;the&nbsp;University of California,&nbsp;Los Angeles&nbsp;and&nbsp;Art&nbsp;Center College of Design with degrees in&nbsp;art&nbsp;and&nbsp;cultural&nbsp;anthropology. She has an art studio in Liberty Station, Point Loma. She loves teaching art to kids—sharing her enthusiasm for art and encouraging everyone's creativity.&nbsp;
