DOD Identifies Army Casualty That Died in La Jolla

Army Spc. Edward J. Acosta, 21, died March 5 in La Jolla of injuries sustained last year. Acosta, of Hersperia, was in a vehicle that was struck by an improvised-explosive device in the Wardak province of Afghanistan on Dec. 3, 2011, according to the U.S. Department of Defense.

Acosta was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss, Texas.
