During the final weeks of school, The Gillispie School Grade 6 students took a Vow of Silence for 24 hours as a community service project.
The students gave up their voices to draw attention to important causes and relief efforts, including earthquake assistance in Nepal and victims of Ebola in Africa. According to the World Health Organization, more than 23,000 people in Guinea, Liberia, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, and Sierra Leone have contracted Ebola since March 2015 making this the biggest outbreak on record. The 2015 Nepal earthquake (also known as the Gorkha earthquake) has killed more than 7,000 people and injured twice as many.
