Hundreds of UC San Diego Students Protest Trump Presidential Victory

One person was hit by a car as an estimated 500 students take part in march on and off campus.

L A JOLLA, CA -- An estimated 500-plus students at UC San Diego held an apparently spontaneous march in protest of Donald J. Trump's Election Day presidential victory, university police said.

The march began on campus after midnight, but eventually spread out to the Interstate 5 freeway, where one protester was struck by a car, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The university's independent campus newspaper, The Triton, which is run by students, posted videos on its Facebook page documenting students marching, chanting and expressing their displeasure. There were no reports of violence by the students.

At about 1:45 am, one person was hit by a car and then taken to a hospital with a broken leg. The CHP provided no other information about the incident, including whether it was a hit-and-run or if the driver was cited.
