La Jollans Plead Guilty to Supplying Unapproved Chemo Drugs

Sandra L. Behe, of La Jolla, was sentenced Friday to five years of probation and 200 hours of community service in St. Louis, according to stltoday.com.

The Saint Louis paper reported on Friday that Behe, 44, pleaded guilty earlier to a felony charge of introducing adulterated prescription drugs into interstate commerce and admitted she was involved in the shipment of chemotherapy drugs that were not stored or shipped properly. She reportedly worked for Ban Dune Marketing Inc. of La Jolla.

Ban Dune Marketing owner James R. Newcomb, 61, also pleaded guilty to one felony count of conspiring to distribute adulterated prescription drugs and admitted that he distributed unapproved medication, the paper reported. His sentencing is scheduled for July 6. 

In addition, a doctor in the St. Louis area pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge related to buying $352,504 worth of drugs from Newcomb and Behe, the paper said.
