LJ Elementary Hosts Workshop on Kids and 24/7 Media Environment

How do we guide our kids in a 24/7 media world? La Jolla Elementary School will host a presentation and discussion for parents on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Are your children on Facebook? Do they text? Or search the Internet? In our interactive and mobile media world full of cell phones, iPods, iPads and personal computers, many parents are confused on how to guide their children.

will host a presentation and discussion at the elementary school at 6 p.m., Wednesday to discuss this very challenging question. Child care will be provided.

The school has partnered with Common Sense Media, a non-profit dedicated to educating parents and teachers on the media and technology consumption of youth. The organization believes in teaching kids “to be savvy, respectful and responsible media interpreters, creators, and communicators.”

Common Sense Media provides guidance for parents on topics ranging from cyber bullying to the media's impact on girls' body image.

Mike Lorion, General Manager of Education, and Merve Lapus, Educational Program Manager of Common Sense Media will give a presentation Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. with a question and answer session to follow.
