The unisex scent is a popular favorite at Tijon in La Jolla.

What does La Jolla smell like? A lot of things, apparently.

Tijon, a perfumery in La Jolla, sells a scent named after our San Diego neighborhood. The employees created three fragrances and asked customers to pick their favorite.

The result, according to Tijon employee Emily Villanueva, is a unisex scent that combines the likes of bergamot, lime, mandarin, coconut, verbena and grapefruit, with a hint of fir balsam and sweet flowers and finishing touches of amber, sandalwood and more.

“La Jolla literally means ‘The Jewel,’ Villanueva said, “and we’re located in La Jolla. That’s why we picked the name. The scent is a blend that ties the city’s southern European beach atmosphere with the beach culture.”

“La Jolla” may be a popular scent, but Tijon isn’t stopping there. The next city fragrance up for a vote is Coronado. Guests can once again choose from three scents and vote for their favorite. Tijon is planning on rolling out a new city’s at least once every year, and are open to suggestions on which city should get its own scent next.

People who vote for a scent are also enrolled in a contest to win a free training class on how to mix and match their own original scents at Tijon.

Tijon is located at 7853 Herschel Ave. in La Jolla.
