More Military Night Flights to Fly Over San Diego
Residents near Miramar may see increased night flights as one of the base's units trains for a deployment.
Units of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing—based at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar—will conduct increased night training this week.
The increase in night training is due to several squadrons preparing to deploy over the coming weeks in support of U.S. operations around the globe. Pilots and aircrews must practice night operations to ensure they are able to conduct them effectively and safely in combat.
Additionally, the lateness of nightfall over the summer months requires squadrons to begin their night training later than typical.
Residents of the surrounding communities may notice the increase in night training, and we thank them for their understanding and support as we work to ensure our pilots and aircrews are prepared to support troops on the ground.
