Attorney Bryan Pease Will Run for City Council
Bryan Pease, a lawyer who represents advocates for harbor seals at the Children's Pool in La Jolla, filed to run for City Council District 1 on Thursday.

Bryan Pease, a lawyer who recently sued the city of San Diego to have the Children's Pool in La Jolla closed during harbor seal pupping season, filed to run for City Council in District 1 on Thursday.
Pease, of UTC, is a solo practice attorney focused on civil rights, free speech and environmental protection. His office is in Banker's Hill.
Pease is the third candidate to file to run in District 1, which includes La Jolla, University City and Rancho Peñasquitos. Encumbent Lightner, of La Jolla Shores, filed her statement of intent to run for re- election to the San Diego City Council in May 2011. Ray Ellis, president of the San Diego City Employees' Retirement System and Carmel Valley resident, filed in August 2011.

Patch asked Pease why he decided to run. He answered, "voters should have a real choice, particularly when it comes to environmental protection, which is my number one issue. Sherri Lightner received a C+ on her environmental report card. Her Republican opponent would be even worse."
He said his initiatives would include listening to constituents and to "make decisions that are best for the community, not corporate or special interests."

Pease said he has been thinking about running for some time.
"The moment I thought it was possible was when I read the Labor Council was not endorsing Sherri, a few weeks ago, due to her pro-Walmart and pro-privatization of Miramar landfill votes," he said.
