Miramar Faculty Coordinator Carmen Carasquillo hosted Miramar Counseling Office’s
Julia Kamp, to learn strategies for managing stress during times of transition. Julia
has worked in the Mental Health field for over eight years and currently serves Miramar College as a Mental Health Counselor.

Kamp supported 17 students preparing for transfer in recognizing positive and negative
effects of stress on the body and what stressors tend to effect students most. Body
mindfulness was also discussed and students practiced breathing and slow down calming
techniques to use when stressors kick in. The event left students knowing the importance
of understanding when the body is stressed and how to mediate and control how your
body reacts.
