SDUSD: Enrollment Up in La Jolla Schools

While enrollment is down in the San Diego Unified School District, it is slightly up in La Jolla.

Enrollment at La Jolla’s five public schools increased nearly 2 percent from last year, according to San Diego Unified School District data. The five schools – , , , and ­ – saw an increase of 80 students as of Sept. 30, bringing the total in La Jolla to 4,338 students.

All schools besides La Jolla High, saw increases between 2 percent to 7 percent in total number of students enrolled compared to last.

While La Jolla’s public schools saw a modest increase, the San Diego Unified School District saw a small decrease. Official enrollment numbers for the current school year were 134,053 on Sept. 30, down 857 from 2010.

The decrease was slightly larger than projected.

“The enrollment number does not alter our course for the upcoming school year,” said SDUSD Superintendent Bill Kowba, in a release. “We remain focused on advancing student achievement and preparing all students for success in their choice of college and career.”
