Surfers to Attempt Record-Breaking Wave in One Wave Challenge Event at La Jolla Shores
Proceeds from One Wave Challenge's record-breaking attempt will benefit Boys to Men Mentoring, a San Diego-based youth mentoring program.

LA JOLLA, CA – Dozens of surfers are expected to hop on their boards and share a single wave Jan. 21 at La Jolla Shores in an effort to break a world record.
Proceeds from One Wave Challenge’s record-breaking attempt will benefit Boys to Men Mentoring, a San Diego-based youth mentoring program.
"The One Wave Challenge gives surfers, of all ages and abilities, the chance to participate in something much larger than themselves at the start of a New Year," Boys to Men Executive Director Craig McClain said in a statement. "We see the event generating a spirit of excitement and possibility that will inspire our work throughout the coming year."

Surfers rode 18 waves at La Jolla Shores last year in an attempt to break the current world record for most surfers riding one wave, a feat accomplished seven years ago in Cape Town, South Africa, when 110 surfers rode a single wave to shore. The 2016 La Jolla attempt to break the record got close, with 97 riders on one wave.
The second event will be limited to 180 participants. Surfers are asked to raise a minimum of $250 to participate, with proceeds benefitting Boys to Men's mentoring programs.

Running enthusiasts will also have an opportunity to participate this year in a new wrap-around event called the Torrey Pines Adventure Run.
The five-mile run will start and end on the beach at La Jolla Shores. Registration is $60, but a full-race entry refund will be given to any runner who raises $250 or more for the Boys to Men organization. The run is limited to 500 participants.
