An individual at UC San diego was recently diagnosed with tuberculosis, according to the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency.

The county reported Wednesday that an individual at UC San Diego was recently diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB) and may have exposed students and staff.

The San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency said it was working with university officials to notify those who were potentially exposed from November 2, 2012 through March 22, 2013.

Students and staff can get tested for free from April 16-23 at the student health center, 9500 Gilman Dr., on campus.

County Public Health Officer Wilma Wooten said symptoms for active TB include persistent cough, fever, night sweats and unexplained weight loss.

"TB usually requires many hours of close, indoor contact to spread to others so most people who are exposed in classrooms do not get infected or develop the disease," Wooten said in an announcement.
