CALIFORNIA – Hundreds of Californians give more than just their time and energy to their jobs – some put their lives in danger when they go to work.
In fact, more than 350 California workers die from on-the-job injuries during a typical year, according to data from the California Department of Industrial Relations. In 2016, there were 376 fatal work-related injuries in California, down slightly from 388 in 2015.
Being a logger is the most dangerous job in California and across the country. Fifteen loggers in the Golden State – about 1 in 600 – died on the job between 2012 and 2016, according to the state's Department of Industrial Relations. In 2016, loggers suffered 91 fatal injuries and 900 nonfatal injuries in the United States, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Below are the 12 deadliest jobs in the Golden State, according to a new report from The Sacramento Bee. The jobs were ranked based on annual fatality rates from 2012 to 2016. The data was compiled from the California Department of Industrial Relations and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
