Two Days, Two Concerts: GZA and Rachel Yamagata

Catch two concerts at UC San Diego this week.

Whether you love hip hop or indie rock, UC San Diego has got two concerts this week that will appeal to you.

GZA

Born Gary Grice, GZA is a hip hop artist who will be taking the stage at UCSD’s Porter’s Pub tonight at 8 p.m.

GZA is a founding member of hip hop group the Wu-Tang Clan and is known for being the spiritual one of the group. He’s appeared on multiple albums and released his first solo album, Liquid Swords, in 1995.

Ready to be impressed by "one of the best lyricists of the 1990s?” GZA will be rapping on stage with Scatter Brain and Ghetto Zoo at UCSD’s Porter Pub at 8 p.m. Buy your tickets for the GZA show tonight at 8 p.m., online here or call 858-2505-8609. Price is $20.

All ages are welcome and a full bar will be available for those 21 and older.

Rachel Yamagata

Rachel Yamagata will be showing off her pipes at UCSD’s The Loft. She’ll be singing songs from her 2008 album Elephants...Teeth Sinking Into Heart as well as new ones.

Yamagata is known for her soulful, scratchy voice and her Fiona Apple-esque lyrics. She’s toured the U.S., Europe and Asia and has had songs featured on popular TV shows, like Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. Yamagata has even appeared on NBC’s popular 30 Rock.
