UCSD Receives $4.3 Million Gift From Late Philanthropist Mary Andrews Haag

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA – UC San Diego received more than $4.3 million from the estate of a San Diego philanthropist who died nearly two years ago, the school announced this week.

The money from Mary Andrews Haag, who died in November 2014 at the age of 92, establishes The Frederick and Mary Haag Scholarship Fund.

The fund will pay for merit-based undergraduate student scholarships, according to UCSD.

"We are so grateful to Mary Andrews Haag for her visionary support of scholarships at UC San Diego," Chancellor Pradeep Khosla said.

"The gift of education is an investment in our future," Khosla said. "Scholarships provide access for outstanding UC San Diego students who will go on to become the leaders and innovators of tomorrow."

Haag, a native of Kansas, was married to Pacific Southwest Airlines co- founder J. Floyd Andrews and later to Frederick Haag, a real estate investor who formed the Haag Linen Co.
