150+ Pounds Of Fireworks Seized Across Southwest Riverside County

Riverside County Sheriff's officers halted illegal fireworks displays on July 4th in Southwest Riverside County and Lake Elsinore.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA —Officers involved in a July 4 operation focused near Lake Elsinore collected more than 150 pounds of fireworks, the sheriff's department said Sunday.

A Riverside County Sheriff's Department's Special Enforcement Team from the Lake Elsinore station, collaborating with the Hazardous Devices Team, worked to cite offenders actively shooting off fireworks, according to a recent news release.

According to Sgt. Jarrod Meissen, the operation resulted in 56 citations for possession of fireworks and one criminal violation for possession with intent to distribute fireworks.

During the operation, numerous individuals were contacted, cited, and educated about the dangers of lighting illegal fireworks in their communities, Meissen said.

All of the seized fireworks were properly destroyed.
