34 Kids Get Gifts in 'Shop With a Cop' Program

The fourth annual local "Shop With a Cop" program was funded through grants from the Target store in Menifee and Walmart store in Perris.

Dozens of disadvantaged children were treated to $100 shopping sprees and lunch Saturday, thanks to local Target and Walmart stores, Skydive Perris, and officers from Menifee and Perris police departments, according to a sheriff’s news release.

The fourth annual “Shop With a Cop” program is funded through grants from the Target store in Menifee and Walmart store in Perris. Skydive Perris donated space in their facility for the luncheon.

At 9 a.m. Saturday, deputies transported 34 disadvantaged kids from the Riverside County Sheriff’s station in Perris, to the Target and Walmart stores. Each child was given a $100 gift card to purchase gifts for themselves and their families, the news release said.

Deputies helped the children shop and select gifts.

After the shopping trip, the children were taken to Skydive Perris, where they were served lunch and got a surprise visit from Santa Claus and Mrs. Clause, portrayed by Menifee City Councilman John Denver and his wife, Lynda.
