CORONA, CA — 91 Freeway commuters can expect an extra long trip home from work Tuesday evening, as the Canyon Fire rages on in the Corona and Anaheim areas. To help ease travel a bit, transportation officials from both Riverside and Orange counties have agreed to open the eastbound 91 Express Lanes to all traffic and will not charge tolls again until 9 p.m. Tuesday.
The California Highway Patrol issued the following news advisory on Tuesday afternoon:
Due to the current wild fire in the City of Corona, the California Highway Patrol would like to make commuters aware of the current traffic conditions through the area.
The eastbound Green River Rd. offramp is currently closed until further notice. Green River Rd. is closed from SR-91 to Foothill Pkwy. The eastbound SR-91 #5 lane is closed between Coal Canyon to Green River Rd.
To assist with the flow of traffic, the Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC) and Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) will open the eastbound 91 Express lanes to all traffic and will not charge tolls until 9 pm this evening (09/26/2017).
The California Highway Patrol urges commuters to take alternate routes to their destinations to mitigate traffic congestion through the area.
