SAGE, CA — A brush fire that erupted Friday in Sage burned almost 40 acres in a lightly-populated area, prompting evacuation warnings for nearby residents as fire crews continued battling the blaze, officials said.
The fire was reported at 12:40 p.m. near Taffle Ranch and Red Mountain roads, about six miles southeast of Hemet, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.
Multiple engines and hand crews responded to the blaze and encountered a vegetation fire spreading at a "dangerous" rate. Air resources were also called in to battle the brusher, the agency said.
Firefighters were working to keep the flames south of Red Mountain and east of Oak Drive, where only a few scattered residential properties were in the path of the fire.
Evacuation warnings were issued for all residences and ranches located east of Oak, north of Taffle Ranch and south of Red Mountain.
No injuries were reported.
