UPDATE: Skydiver Killed in Perris Crash Was a Navy Sailor
The U.S. Navy sailor crashed around 9 a.m. Wednesday.

A skydiver who died Wednesday near Perris was a U.S. Navy sailor based out of Coronado, Navy officials say.
A Navy official told the Associated Press that the man’s parachute malfunctioned during a training exercise being performed in the area of of Richard Street and Highway 74, in an unincorporated area of Riverside County, near Perris Valley Airport.

According to a statement released by Lt. Beth Teach, the victim was participating in “parachute jump training,” but no other details were provided.

The man’s identity has not been released, and further information about his duties within the Navy won’t be available until his family has been notified of his death, officials told Patch.
At this time, we know only that he was assigned to the Naval Special Warfare Unit in Coronado.
Perris Valley Skydiving provides a variety of parachuting activities for professionals and amateurs on an almost daily at the airport.

A skydiver died Wednesday morning in Perris, following an apparent accident in town.
Firefighters were dispatched at 9:08 a.m. on a report of a skydiver “down” in the area of Richard Street and Highway 74, according to Jody Hagemann of the Riverside County Fire Department.
Cal Fire Riverside confirmed one fatality at 10:40 a.m., but released no other details.
