ABC7 Sports Zone has picked Tigers Football Coach Tony Peralta as one of five finalists for its NFL High School Coach of the Year award.

Michael Francis of ABC7 Sports Zone has picked Tigers Football Coach Peralta as one of five finalists for the 2011 ABC7/NFL High School Coach of the Year award based on win/loss record and feedback from students, fans and the community.

Coach Rich Gutierrez - Canyon Country Canyon High School: Regular season record 9-1; first in the Foothill League.

Coach Harry Welch - Santa Margarita Catholic High School: Regular season record 8-2; second in the Trinity League.

Coach Anthony White - Buena Park High School: Regular season record 8-2; second in the Freeway League.

Coach Jim Bonds - St. Francis High School: Regular season record 8-2; third in the Mission League.

Coach Peralta’s regular season record this year is 7-3 and the Tigers ranked second in the Sunbelt League.

In order for Coach Peralta to win the final award, ABC7 needs to hear from you! They want devoted Tigers and their fans to tell them why Coach Peralta should get the honor.

Coach of the Year will be selected Nov. 27 following the second round of CIF playoffs. If any of the five finalists lose in one of the first two playoff rounds, they will most likely fall out of the running, according to ABC7. 

The ABC7/NFL High School Coach of the Year award will be presented during the Sports Zone Show Saturday Dec. 3 following the NCAA Game of the Week.
