Heavenly Sighting Spotted Above Lake Elsinore

"It looked like a ball of fire dropping through the clouds, then it broke off into three pieces and burned out. Whatever it was, it/they fell pretty gracefully and silently."

Reports of a fireball in the sky above Lake Elsinore around 5 p.m. Thursday night have some residents asking: Did you see that?

Was it a UFO, a meteor?

Marney Fairchild, a Lake Elsinore resident and public safety commissioner for the city, spied it.

“I had just gone outside to get a breath of fresh air … the lake looked so pretty,” she said.

Then Fairchild glanced up and saw something “really strange.”

Fairchild said there were planes overhead, so she suspected might be involved with the heavenly sighting.

They were, sort of.

According to a Skydive Elsinore representative, a commercial was being filmed above the lake last night and flares were involved. No word on who was filming.

Just to be sure there wasn’t some other unworldly occurrence, we checked with Caltech. There were no strange sightings last night.

Whew!
