Lake Elsinore Residents Get Last Chance On Redistricting
The city will hold a final public hearing Tuesday night.
LAKE ELSINORE, CA — The city of Lake Elsinore will hold a final public hearing Tuesday night to receive input on adjusting the boundaries of the five City Council districts.
By law, each city with a "district-based" election system like Lake Elsinore must, if needed, redraw City Council district boundaries every 10 years to coincide with updated U.S. census data. The process, called redistricting, ensures all districts have substantially equal populations.
The current City Council districts were drawn based on the 2010 census that recorded the city's population at 51,821. By comparison, the city’s 2020 population was recorded as 72,979, which represents a 40.83 percent increase. During the 10-year period, District 2 currently represented by Council Member Steve Manos, and District 3 represented by Mayor Tim Sheridan, both experienced substantial growth.
