Riverside County Residents Invited To Apply For Seats On New Audit Committee

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — Riverside County residents interested in digging deeper into how county government works and whether all policies and protocols are effective in assuring operations are meeting the public's expectations are invited to apply for seats on the new Audit Committee.

Applications are being accepted until July 1 and will be vetted by staff from the Office of the Auditor-Controller.

The Board of Supervisors recently authorized formation of the committee to increase the agency's efficiency and support the board's efforts to ensure county government is functioning with the utmost "transparency, accountability and performance across operations," according to an agency statement.

"The Audit Committee provides a formal process to support oversight ... in Riverside County government," Auditor-Controller Ben Benoit said. "Qualified residents and business owners with experience in accounting, auditing or financial management are encouraged to review the application materials."

The committee will be composed of Benoit, one of his staffers, two board members, the county chief executive officer or his designated representative, the clerk of the board, a lawyer from the Office of County Counsel, and two residents who are not part of county government.

Meetings are planned quarterly, though they may be supplemented periodically with additional meetings. The term for a member of the public is two years.

There is no direct compensation.
