Super Bloom 2019: People Go Wild Over Flowers In Elsinore

Meanwhile, the city says they are better prepared this year for an influx of visitors to the region.

After an especially wet winter in the Southland, the region is finally out of drought conditions and Mother Nature is loving it. And thanks to the rains, fields of golden poppies are once again popping up in the Lake Elsinore area. Super bloom 2.0 is here.

Back in 2017, the region went gaga over the beautiful flowers that seemingly appeared along Interstate 15 overnight, transforming the hillside into a golden tourist attraction.

The Walker Canyon area, which is located next to Intersate 15 between Lake Street and Nichols Road, is a hot spot for viewing wildflowers in Southwest Riverside County. However, city officials say that for the last two years, some visitors were less than respectful when it came to tossing trash, impeding traffic and venturing into the flowers in search of that perfect selfie.

This year, the city is launching a campaign to "preserve while you observe."

"The Super Bloom is a great way to get outdoors and enjoy nature with friends and family," the city said in a news release. "However, help us preserve these beautiful hillsides for many years to come by staying on established trails and avoiding walking, laying or standing on the flowers. Further, please help keep the area clean for by throwing trash away properly into the designated receptacles in the parking area."

Parking is only allowed on Walker Canyon Road and a community services officer will be on patrol in the area over the weekends to assist with traffic control.

If you're looking to head out to see these gorgeous flowers, here's some info from the city regarding viewing areas:

The recommended viewing area is Walker Canyon Trail located off of Lake Street on Interstate 15 (I-15). Parking is available along Walker Canyon Road.

For safety and compliance, a Lake Elsinore Sheriff Station Community Services Officer (CSO) will be on site Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. to assist with traffic. Parking will be available seven (7) days per week. All available parking is parallel parking only.

No parking is allowed along Lake Street and no stopping is allowed on the roadways at anytime. Turn Around Areas are established in certain areas on Walker Canyon Road (no parking in these areas). Parking is at your own risk.

Please use the map below to locate approved parking locations and the trail head access. Use caution while hiking and pay attention to posted signs.
