TRAFFIC ALERT: 91 Freeway to be Partially Closed Again Tonight

Riverside County Transportation Commission are closing part of the artery as the $1.3 billion "91 Project Fast Forward" continues.

CORONA, CA - The Riverside (91) Freeway will be partially closed Monday night in Corona to facilitate construction work.

The eastbound side of the 91 near Maple Street will close at 11 p.m. and re-open about 4 a.m., according to the Riverside County Transportation Commission.

According to RCTC spokeswoman Eliza Echevarria Perez, the closure is necessary to allow construction teams to work on erecting support beams for the new westbound Maple Street on-ramp.

"Closing the eastbound 91 will help provide safe working conditions for crews and motorists while the support structure is being built," RCTC Executive Director Anne Mayer said.

During the closures, motorists will be detoured to the Maple Street off- ramp, where they'll reconnect with the 91 via Paseo Grande, Perez said.

She said motorists should be mindful of lower speeds through the construction zone and allow for extra travel time.

The $1.3 billion "91 Project Fast Forward," which got underway in early 2014, involves widening the east-west corridor between the Orange County line and I-15, with new traffic lanes and ramps, as well as additional shoulder space and expanded surface streets in the vicinity of the freeway. The project is slated for completion sometime next year.

According to Perez, the work is subject to change based on weather conditions and operational factors.
