12-Year-Old Boy Victim in Fatal Accident on Jamboree Rd.
A fatal accident near Newport Friday night when car struck 12-year-old Tustin boy who may have been runaway affected by Autism, reports say.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A 12-year-old boy was fatally struck by a pickup truck in Tustin, police said today.
The boy was later identified as Tustin resident Carson Shortes, according to the coroner's office.
The fatal accident was reported around 8 p.m. Friday on Jamboree Road just north of Champion Way, according to Sgt. Andy Birozy of the Tustin Police Department.

The boy reportedly ran into the roadway, Birozy said.
Paramedics rushed the child to Children's Hospital of Orange County in Orange, where he died from his injuries at 8:38 p.m. Friday, according to the coroner's office.

Though ABC7 reported that Shortes was a runaway who was affected by autism, but Birozy was not immediately able to confirm those details.
The driver of the pickup truck remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, Birozy said. Alcohol and drugs are not thought to be factors in the crash, he added.
