3-Car Crash Kills Woman, 95, When Car Runs Red Light In South OC: Police

The woman was driving a Toyota Rav-4 when her car drove through a red light at an intersection and crashed into two other vehicles.

IRVINE, CA — A 95-year-old woman behind the wheel of a car died in a three-vehicle crash in Irvine Wednesday, authorities said.

The crash happened at 9:12 a.m. Wednesday in the area of Irvine Center Drive and Valley Oak.

A preliminary investigation found the driver was behind the wheel of a Toyota Rav-4 westbound on Irvine Center Drive toward Valley Oak, police said.

The driver entered the intersection when a red light was showing in her direction, running into a Dodge Ram and a Tesla 3 Series that were driving northbound on Valley Oak on a green signal.

The driver of the Rav-4, identified only as a 95-year-old woman, was taken to a local hospital where she later died of her injuries.

Her name was not immediately released.
