• Community Rallies Around Young Father Critically Injured In Lake Forest Crash (patch.com) — A Lake Forest family is seeking community help after 26-year-old father Javier Mejia was critically injured in an Aug. 31 hit-and-run at Lake Forest Boulevard and Rockfield. He remains in a medically induced coma with extensive injuries, while relatives describe his devotion to his young son and nieces. A GoFundMe has raised part of a $10,000 goal for medical and related expenses.
   

• Saddleback Valley teachers demand lower class sizes, special education support amid stalled contract talks (ocregister.com) — Teachers in the Saddleback Valley Unified School District, which serves Lake Forest, are at an impasse with district leaders over class sizes and special education caseloads after more than a year of negotiations. While pay and benefits are settled, educators say crowded classrooms and heavy special education workloads hurt student safety and learning, and they rallied in Mission Viejo over Labor Day weekend. Talks have moved into fact-finding as both sides seek a resolution.
