A man who was shot multiple times after charging Orange County deputies with a firearm earlier this year is expected to survive.

LAKE FOREST, CA — A man who was shot multiple times after charging Orange County deputies with a firearm earlier this year is expected to survive, authorities said.

Video of the April 24 incident shows the suspect approaching a townhome near Antonio Parkway and Cow Camp Road in Rancho Mission Viejo at around 2:30 a.m. armed with a gun, prompting a 911 call.

According to police, when asked by emergency dispatch why the man might be approaching the home with a gun, the caller answered immediately.

"Because he is obsessed with my girlfriend," the victim said. "I don't know where he came from or how he found her address exactly, but he walked up, started banging on the door."

The suspect fled the area before deputies arrived.

Around 3:45 a.m., deputies saw his car at Rimgate Park in Lake Forest.

The suspect initially refused attempts to be stopped by deputies, prompting a short pursuit before he stopped the car, got out and rushed deputies with a gun in his hand.

Deputies opened fire and struck the suspect multiple times.

He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, police said.

A large knife and handgun were found at the scene, authorities said.

The suspect remains hospitalized and is expected to face multiple felony charges upon his release, according to the OCSD.
