Brush Fire Blazes Overnight Off Santiago Canyon Road
A car fire burned a large part of the hillside off Santiago Canyon Road overnight.

LAKE FOREST, CA — A brush fire broke out near Limestone Canyon Regional Park early Wednesday morning. Santiago Canyon Road was closed in both directions near Haul Road in the unincorporated Orange County community of Silverado. The fire burned less than two acres before it was brought under control, a spokesperson for the Orange County Fire Authority said.
Firefighters were called around 3 a.m. to the 4600 block of Santiago Canyon Road and discovered the fire was caused by an unoccupied vehicle engulfed in flame, according to OCFA Capt. Tony Bommarito. 70 firefighters were on scene, including the OCFA helicopter that made water drops with night vision. No structures were threatened during the blaze, Bommarito said.
The fire spread to nearby brush and burned in what was described as "light to medium fuel," Bommarito said. Crews halted progress of the fire at about 3:30 a.m. and began mop-up operations, he said.
