City Honors STARS Volunteers
With nearly 8,000 hours they helped save the city $350,000

The City held a recognition dinner for the STARS volunteers Thursday night. The Sheriff’s Team of Active Retired Seniors has a few dozen residents who, in 2017, performed $350,000 worth of services for free. These services included nearly 8,000 hours. They performed
· 4,915 Vacation Home Checks
· 14,040 Park Checks

In addition, they helped with
- Code Enforcement and Public Works.
- Neighborhood Watch Programs.
- Business Checks.
- Clerical Support.
- Seniors Offering Support.
- Special Events.
- Van Patrol.
Qualifications to get involved are
- Resident of the City (including Portola Hills and Foothill Ranch).
- Must be willing to donate four to six hours a week.
- Must possess a valid California Driver's License.
- No criminal history.
- Pass an initial physical exam prior to acceptance.
- Provide a letter from their physician stating that the volunteer is currently in satisfactory health and can perform the duties required in the STARS program.
