Corvette Split In Half By Light Pole In Irvine Crash

The driver of the sports car miraculously survived the initial crash but is currently in critical condition at the hospital, police said.

IRVINE, CA — A driver miraculously survived the scene of a grisly crash that left a Corvette nearly split in half early Friday morning in Irvine.

The crash was reported at 1:03 a.m. Friday morning after a sports car collided with a traffic signal pole at Modjeska and Still Night.

Photos from the scene show a mangled white Corvette split down the middle by the pole.

"We rapidly responded to the scene with our Orange County Fire Authority partners," the Irvine Police Department said in a statement. "They quickly rescued the driver from the vehicle and transported him to the hospital."

According to police, the driver was left seriously injured. The driver's current state as of Monday was not known.
