Cougar Spotted In South OC Neighborhood, Near 5 Freeway
A mountain lion was spotted roaming in neighborhoods along the Interstate 5 Freeway in south Orange County. What to know.

LAKE FOREST, CA ā A mountain lion was spotted roaming along the Interstate 5 Freeway in Lake Forest, city officials said Friday.
The cougar was seen along the freeway between Lake Forest Dr. and Swan, officials said.
Ring camera footage released by the City of Lake Forest shows the mountain lion prowling around a resident's driveway.

"Mountain lions primarily hunt deer, along with other local wildlife," a city statement read. "While they typically avoid humans and domestic animals, caution is advised."
Residents who come into contact with a mountain lion and feel that they are in immediate danger were urged to call 911.

To report mountain lion sightings, residents can contact Orange County Animal Services at 714-935-6848 during regular hours or 714-259-1122 during after hours.
The city released the following safety recommendations to protect residents against cougars:
- Avoid walking alone; bring a companion.
- Wear bright, contrasting clothing.
- Observe signs and trail postings.
- Avoid jogging or biking at dawn or dusk.
- Stay on designated trails.
- Supervise children and keep them close.
- Keep pets on a leash and indoors.
- Do not approach wildlife.
- If you see a mountain lion, appear large and do not crouch.
