ORANGE COUNTY, CA — The Orange County Rescue Mission has an urgent need for diapers, a spokesperson told Patch. The mission is urgently seeking help from the local community to provide a total of 270,000 diapers and pull-ups, and 600,000 baby wipes, to meet the need for the next year, according to Jim Palmer, President of Orange County Rescue Mission.

“At this time, we are experiencing a significant shortage of larger-size diapers and pull-up pants to meet the needs of homeless families with toddlers and young children at the Village of Hope,” explains Palmer. “Traditionally, people tend to think of small babies when donating diapers. While we appreciate these extremely generous donations, we now have a greater need for larger-size diapers and pull-up pants for resident families.”

Palmer notes that the rapid increase in homelessness over the last few years has resulted in increased capacity at the Village of Hope, creating a significant shortage in personal items and basic necessities for people of all ages.

“We are very grateful for the Orange County community’s tremendous generosity to the Village of Hope,” says Palmer. “Through their donations, we are able to continue helping residents at our facility with their basic needs for health and comfort.”

In addition to accepting individual donations, Palmer encourages members of the community to coordinate their own Diaper Drives – through their workplaces, churches, and social organizations – as a means of fulfilling this urgent need.
